Simon and Schuster Children’s Books has announced plans for a series of publishing tie-ins for the upcoming The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie, based on the novel of the same name.

Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which is based on the first book in the series, will hit the big screen on Aug. 23.

S&S is planning two tie-in novels, The Shadowhunter’s Guide and The Official Illustrated Movie Companion, for publication Aug. 1, in advance of the film’s premiere.

The news follows the publisher’s acquisition of The Dark Artifices novels, a companion series to The Mortal Instruments that is due for publication in 2015.

The Shadowhunter’s Guide will feature profiles on the film characters, quotes from the script and detailed information on downworlders, Shadowhunters, the Clave and more.

The Official Illustrated Movie Companion provides a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the movie with photographs from the set, designers’ sketches, interviews with the cast and crew, and more.
