In 2018, Penguin Ventures celebrated the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman by inviting leading children’s books illustrators to recreate the book in their own style.

In December, nine pieces of artwork were displayed at Brighton Museum next to the original illustrations by Briggs.

Quentin Blake, Adam Hargreaves, Shirley Hughes, Helen Oxenbury, Chris Riddell, Posy Simmonds, Andy Stanton, Ed Vere and the late John Burningham were participants. Each piece was auctioned and sold from Dec. 4 through Jan. 9.

More than £10,180 was raised, with proceeds benefitting Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice.
