Rovio Entertainment has appointed Puffin, an imprint of Penguin Children’s, as the key publisher for the Angry Birds franchise.

The three-year deal covers English-language rights globally (excluding North America) for story, activity, official guide and sticker books.

Puffin will launch its first Angry Birds range this July with four new titles: The Official Sticker Book, Pig & Mix Puzzle Book, Fowl Play Sticker Activity and The Mystery of the Green Bird story book.

Puffin and Rovio plan to work closely for future titles, including tie-ins for a game Rovio currently has in development.

“Rovio has managed to not only create a fantastically addictive game, but also an amazing set of characters that people instantly love,” says Richard Haines, acquisitions manager, media and entertainment, Penguin Children’s. “We are really excited to be partnering with them to bring the birds and pigs to life on the page. We will be publishing across our most popular formats including the official guide, official sticker book and a whole range of story and activity titles.”
