Penguin has signed on to develop publishing programs for two preschool series–the upcoming CBeebies show "Hey Duggee" and DHX Brands' "Ella the Elephant."

Penguin Children's in the U.K. has acquired the publishing rights to the brand-new preschool series “Hey Duggee,” which is set to debut on CBeebies in early 2015. BBC Worldwide handles licensing for the brand.

Penguin is planning a range of picture, activity and novelty books under its Ladybird imprint that will begin to hit shelves in summer 2015.

“The Penguin publishing plan is a welcome addition to a growing portfolio of licensing partners for this exciting new brand,” says Nicholas Brett, director, U.K. publishing, BBC Worldwide. “Adding to Golden Bear as master toy licensee, we’re very excited to see how Penguin will represent the world of ‘Hey Duggee’ off-air. ‘Hey Duggee’ offers a treasure trove of adventures and we’re thrilled to begin the creation of some fantastic new lines and digital offerings to take young fans enjoyment of the show even further."

In the U.S. and Canada, DHX Brands has tapped Penguin Young Readers to develop a publishing program for "Ella the Elephant" in a deal brokered by DHX’s licensing agency Copyright Promotions Licensing Group.

Penguin is planning a full publishing program that will include storybooks, board books and sticker books, as well as e-books with enhanced read-to-me functions.  The publishing program is expected to hit retail in fall 2015.

"Ella the Elephant," which stars an adventurous elephant and her magic hat, made its debut on Disney Channel and Disney Junior in the U.S. in February.

“Extending the vibrant world of Ella the Elephant through a new publishing program with Penguin Young Readers is a natural next step for this brand," says Ted Larkins, senior vice president, general manager, CPLG North America. "Ella began as a beautiful book series and now fans can join Ella and her friends on many adventures through an exceptional publishing platform that reinforces great storytelling.”
