Netflix is bringing the best-selling Dr. Seuss book Green Eggs and Ham to the small screen with the help of a host of production partners including executive producer Ellen DeGeneres and Warner Bros Animation.

The classic book will be adapted for television by Jared Stern, writer of The LEGO Movie Sequel, with 13 episodes planned for the first season, which will arrive in 2018.

Stern will also serve as an executive producer alongside DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, Mike Karz and David Dobkin. The company will be produced by A Very Good Production, A Stern Talking To and Gulfstream Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation. The series will be distributed by Warner Bros. Television.

Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix said:

"We think this will be a hit

Green Eggs and Ham is a perfect fit

for our growing slate of amazing stories

available exclusively in all Netflix territories."

Netflix made the announcement in a cleverly crafted Seuss-style press release that describes the storyline of the series is just too much fun not to share verbatim:

We'd love to share some happy news

based on the rhymes of Dr. Seuss.

Green Eggs and Ham will become a show

and you're among the first to know.

In this richly animated production,

a 13-episode introduction,

standoffish inventor (Guy, by name)

and Sam-I-Am of worldwide fame,

embark on a cross-country trip

that tests the limits of their friendship.

As they learn to try new things,

they find out what adventure brings.

Of course they also get to eat

that famous green and tasty treat!
