New comics will be released in support of the series’ reboot.

Cartoon Network has tapped IDW Publishing to create a new comic series based on the recent re-launch of “The Powerpuff Girls.”

The new comic will be an extension of the new cartoon and will be written by several of the TV series’ writers, Jake Goldman and Haley Mancini, with artist Derek Charm rounding out the creative team.

The first issue of the new comic series will center on the Powerpuff Girls and how they have fallen off the public’s radar. Seeing his opportunity, villain Mojo Jojo attempts to make a comeback and take over the town. The issue will also feature a subscription variant by artist Paulina Ganucheau and each retailer incentive cover will feature cover art by an animator from the show.

The first issue in the new “Powerpuff Girls” comic series will launch in July.
