DCD Publishing has signed on to represent Jack Monroe, author of the successful budget food blog “A Girl called Jack,” and has already signed a deal with Penguin U.K.

Jack Monroe, a single mother, found herself with a food budget of just £10 a week while unemployed. In 2012, she turned her inventive and affordable meals into a daily blog that now has more than 100,000 visitors a day.

DCD will represent Monroe globally for publishing, TV, licensing, endorsements, consumer products, public appearances and home entertainment.

“Jack is a woman of our times, facing head-on the realities of recession-hit Britain and responding with a ‘make do and mend’ way of thinking that we all need to consider,” says Adrian Sington, chief executive officer, DCD Publishing. “We look forward to further brand development opportunities through the channels DCD operates in including television and merchandising.”

DCD has already lined up Monroe’s first brand extension, a cookbook with Penguin U.K. that is set to be released in March 2014.

“Jack Monroe is a fresh new voice for our times, and I am so pleased that Penguin will be publishing her first cookbook,” says Lindsey Evans, cookery publisher, Penguin U.K. “Not only has she managed to feed herself and her son on just £10 a week, but she has done so by coming up with delicious and nutritious recipes, all within that budget. More importantly, she can now show us how we can do the same.”
