Poptropica Expands into Publishing

The virtual kids world Poptropica continues its move from digital to print with the release of four new book titles based on the website’s storylines and characters.

The new titles join Poptropica’s first venture into publishing, Poptropica: The Official Guide.

"We're very excited to expand Poptropica's print line with four new books, available in November," says Jeff Kinney, Poptropica creator and author of the best-selling Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. "When we develop an island on Poptropica.com, we always start with the story and strive to tell the best interactive story possible. Our books allow us to tell stories in a different way that we think kids will find fresh and exciting."

The new titles includes two illustrated novels based on islands from the website, Skullduggery Island and Astro-Knights Island, as well as the doodle book Pencil Warrior and Poptropica Mad Libs.

"Unlike other virtual worlds for kids, Poptropica focuses on engaging kids in great stories and does not just offer them games to play," says Jess M. Brallier, publisher, Poptropica. "The enormous popularity of the site is a testament to the power of this strategy. It is exciting to see these great online adventures in Poptropica chapter books for kids."

Named as one of Time magazine's Top 50 websites of 2011, Poptropica has been visited by more than 250 million kids worldwide since its launch in 2007. Players come from more than 130 different countries and speak more than 100 languages.
