7-Eleven has inked a deal for Detective Pikachu-themed products, shareable photo filters and interactive augmented reality experiences in its stores.
The company will kick things off by offering an exclusive mocha drink, a mystery Slurpee flavor, and chocolate bars to celebrate the upcoming release of the Pokémon film. Free goods are expected to be accompanied by collectible cups, plushies, trading cards and other merchandise available in-stores.
Along with the product tie-ins, 7-Eleven will create an AR app as part of an activation that provides fans the chance to win free food and rewards. The “Ryme City Neighborhood Watch” AR experience app is inspired by the movie’s storyline and provides an interactive game where players must find missing Pokémon.
“Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is a great entertainment tie-in for 7‑Eleven because it appeals to so many of our customers – kids, Gen Z, millennials,” says Tarang Sethia, vice president, digital customer experience, 7‑Eleven. “Millennials, who played the original videogame 20 years ago, are parents now and can enjoy the Pokémon phenomenon all over again with their kids.”
The 7-Eleven deal continues the Detective Pikachu roll out that started early this year.
The Pokémon Company’s live-action film has already led to licensing agreements with Wicked Cool Toys and Mattel.
