Spielwarenmesse 2019–also known as the Nuremberg Toy Fair–brought together the toy industry’s greatest from Jan. 30 through Feb. 3. This year marked the 70th anniversary of the toy fair, and loyal exhibitors and visitors enjoyed a host of changes in celebration of the milestone anniversary.

Each year, the fair attracts nearly 3,000 exhibitors from 68 countries and 70,000 visitors from 130 countries to Nuremberg’s Exhibition Centre. Though steeped heavily in tradition, the fair saw notable changes this year.

The new, revamped Hall 3C hosted an evening social event that included live music, food and beverages. On Feb. 2, attendees enjoyed a spectacular firework display in celebration of the fair’s anniversary.

For the first time, the product group Electronic Toys–which encompasses RC toys, robots, electronic educational toys and virtual play–made its debut in Hall 4A. Spin Master, Jazwares, Silverlit, Jamara and Stadlbauer were just some of the big players included in this segment.

In Hall 7A, the Model Railway and Model Construction segments merged, which highlighted the international diversity of both sectors that collectively offer an extensive portfolio to identical target groups. Also new this year, the Festive Articles, Carnival and Fireworks product group in Hall 9 was extended into part of Hall 8. The new ShowTime area gave exhibitors a chance to spotlight products at fashion shows and presentations.

Spielwarenmesse’s long-term partnership with the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) proved invaluable to attendees who flocked to the organization’s stand in the foyer of Hall 12.0.

The LicensePreview feature allowed LIMA members to invite select business contacts to exclusively preview their latest licenses. Attendees enjoyed hearing from a range of licensing industry specialists each morning as part of the LicenseTalks feature, held at the Toy Business Forum.

The changes at Spielwarenmesse 2019–including its deep focus on licensing–point to continued growth and stimulate anticipation for next year’s fair.
