Global women’s lifestyle site PopSugar has announced Angelica Marden as president. In her new role, Marden will run all business operations for PopSugar and will report to Ben Lerer, chief executive officer, Group Nine Media. Marden will be responsible for the company’s business strategy, performance and partnerships. She is based in the company’s San Francisco headquarters.
“Angelica is a natural leader who understands what it takes to continue growing PopSugar in a media environment where audiences’ attention is more fragmented than ever before,” says Ben Lerer, chief executive officer, Group Nine Media. “PopSugar is already a category-defining media brand and I’m excited to see her continue to grow the brand for next-generation audiences.”
Marden has nearly 20 years of digital editorial experience, a majority of which she has spent helping cement PopSugar’s mission. Marden most recently served as general manager for PopSugar and was responsible for editorial operations, audience growth, marketing, affiliate, design, partnerships, consumer, email and international efforts and served as PopSugar’s liaison to sales and marketing teams and Group Nine’s executive team. Prior to this, Marden was senior vice president, content operations where she was responsible for programs that drive and inspire comScore, commerce and audience growth and oversaw editorial strategy, partnerships, consumer marketing, email and native teams. In her tenure, she rose in PopSugar’s editorial ranks from the publisher’s first-ever editor of GeekSugar (PopSugar Tech) to one of the brand’s first editorial directors to eventually becoming managing editor. Prior to PopSugar, Marden was an editor at the Mill Valley Herald and Link TV and before that, a reporter at The Oakland Post.
“PopSugar is in a league of its own in the women’s lifestyle space and is a brand that I am proud to have spent more than 15 years helping build,” says Marden. “Every day, the team creates content, experiences and products that inspire, entertain and provide real utility to help our audience live their fullest life possible. I am excited to take on this new role and lead the team into this next decade of growth where there is endless opportunity for the brand.”
