In anticipation of Hasbro's G.I. Joe toy brand making its Paramount Pictures big-screen debut this summer, Electronic Arts (EA) is developing a video game.

The G.I. Joe game will feature 12 characters, where players can take on adventures where the film will leave off. It will be available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 2 and 3, Playstation Portable, Wii, Nintendo DS and handheld devices. It is expected to hit store shelves around the time of the film release on Aug. 7.

"G.I. Joe has been an icon of action for 45 years," says Mark Blecher, general manager of digital gaming and media at Hasbro. "EA has tapped the legacy of the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra saga to create an amazing interactive experience inspired by the movie, comic books, animated series and iconography that we hope will resonate with millions of fans."

Stephen Sommers is director of the Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment's live-action film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which will star Dennis Quaid, Marlon Wayans, Sienna Miller and others.

In other EA news, the game developer is ready to release The Godfather II video game on April 7 in North America and on April 10 in Europe. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
