French filmmaker Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, The Transporter) has announced that he will write and direct an English-language, live-action adaptation of the long-running French comic book series “Valérian and Laureline” (a.k.a. “Valérian: Spatio-Temporal Agent”)

The project will be produced through EuropaCorp, the movie studio Besson co-founded. The story will follow Valérian and Laureline, two “spatio-temporal” law enforcement agents, as they travel through space and time.

The Valérian comics were also adapted into a French TV series in 2007, “Time Jam: Valérian and Laureline.”
