Running Press to Publish Crayola Visual Biography

The book will release in the fall.

Crayola and Running Press will soon launch a comprehensive biography on the history of Crayola crayons.

“Crayola has made an indelible mark on American popular culture,” says April Heeren, general manager, outbound licensing, Crayola. “The brand has played an important role in how people experience color, whether it’s a favorite crayon out of the iconic yellow and green box or a memory linked to that wonderful crayon smell. This book is a beautiful ode to the brand’s impact from its inception in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania over a century ago to today.”

Authored by Lisa Solomon and Crayola, the 256-page book, with colorful photography and in-depth studies, provides a visual biography of the famous crayon.

The book explores the history of crayons, while also delving into Crayola’s relationship with color: how they use and create with color and how they name colors. It looks at the history of the 120 colors of Crayola and how Crayola itself has helped shape the understanding of color over the last century and a half. The book also explores how people – adults and children alike – have and continue to turn to Crayola to inspire and manifest their creativity.

The book is set to release on Nov. 2.
