Tesco, Loot Crate, Spirit to Talk Retail at NYC Summit

Three top retailers will share insights into their merchandising strategies at the conference and networking event.

The world’s ninth largest retailer, Tesco, as well as specialty retailers Spirit Halloween, part of Spencer Spirit Holdings Company, and Loot Crate will offer a first-hand look at their retail concepts and licensing strategies in the Global Retail Forum at the NYC Licensing Summit.

The NYC Licensing Summit will take place March 2-3 at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Last year’s event sold out, so executives are encouraged to book their tickets soon.

British multi-national retailer Tesco, which has 6,902 doors in 11 countries around the world that bring in more than $81 billion in retail revenue, is the ninth largest retailer in the world, according to the Top 250 Global Retailers 2017 report, published by Deloitte and the National Retail Federation. Rachel Wakely, head of licensing at Tesco, will offer first-hand insights into the retailer’s merchandising strategy and the role licensing plays for the company worldwide.

Loot Crate curates and delivers boxes filled with “geek

and gaming gear” including licensed collectibles, apparel, tech gadgets, art and more to hundreds of thousands of subscribers every month. The company has teamed up with a number of leading licensors to create themed boxes featuring DC, Marvel, Nintendo and other brands. Loot Crate also offers more niche subscriptions including Loot Anime, Loot Gaming and Loot Pets. David Morris, the company’s senior vice president of operations, will offer a first-hand look at Loot Crate’s unique concept and retail strategy.

In addition, Eric Morse, divisional vice president of licensing, marketing and product development at Spencer Gifts’ Spirit Halloween, will provide insight into the unique proposition of specialty retail and the phenomenal growth and popularity of the concept. With 1,200 locations, Spirit Halloween is the largest Halloween specialty retailer in the U.S. Celebrating 33 years, Spirit offers one-stop shopping for everything from costumes to decor and party goods to accessories. In addition, parent Spencer’s has more than 650 pop culture-inspired gift stores across North America.

“These retailers will each bring a valuable and distinct viewpoint about the current retail landscape, offering insight into how licensors and licensees can stand out on increasingly crowded shelves,” says Tony Lisanti, global editorial director,
