Two awards ceremonies celebrating the toy industry coincided with this year’s Toy Fair New York–the 2019 Toy of the Year Awards and the WIT Wonder Women Awards.

The 19th annual Toy of the Year Awards was held at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City on February 15. L.O.L. Surprise! by MGA Entertainment won Toy of the Year, and the People’s Choice prize went to TurtleTee’s Unstable Unicorns.

At the TOTY ceremony, Brian Goldner, chairman and chief executive officer, Hasbro, the late Stan Lee, former editor-in-chief, publisher and chairman of Marvel Comics and the late Joe Mendelsohn, former president of Kenner Products, were inducted into the Toy Industry Hall of Fame.

Women in Toys, Licensing & Entertainment held its 15th annual Wonder Women Awards on February 17 at Chelsea Piers in New York City. Honorees included Pam Kaufman, president, Viacom Nickelodeon Global Consumer Products and Gaye Dean, marketing director, Target.

Kathleen Kennedy, filmmaker and president, Lucasfilm presented the Mentor of the Year Award to Kaufman, and Grammy Award-winning artist Yolanda Adams performed at the ceremony.

WIT also presented four-year-old YouTube influencers Mila and Emma with the 2019 Wonder Girls Award, and presented scholarships to nine students from universities around the country.
