Informa Markets' Global Licensing Group, organizers of the world's largest licensing events, has announced Licensing U will return as part of Licensing Expo’s all-virtual program that will take place August 24-26. Licensing U's educational program, produced by industry trade association and Licensing Expo Virtual official sponsor Licensing International, will host more than 20 seminars as part of the event’s digital platform.

A one-stop-shop for newcomers and experienced professionals alike, this year's program is made up of three content tracks:

  • Basics of Licensing, featuring a full breakdown of the ‘basics’ of licensing to introduce newcomers to all aspects of this growing industry;

  • Spotlights, featuring content on specific industry verticals and categories; and

  • Tactics to Strategies, presenting more advanced sessions that will tackle some of the latest topics and trends impacting today’s licensing industry.

"Licensing U is a staple for the Licensing Expo community, one that is well-attended year after year,” says Anna Knight, vice president licensing, Informa Markets. “We are thrilled to announce the program's return, especially at such a distinctive time for our industry when continued education is paramount, providing much-needed refresher courses for practiced professionals and serving as a gateway into the exciting world of licensing for those starting their journey. It's always a pleasure to partner with Licensing International, especially on a program of such a topical nature. We look forward to sharing the exceptional speaker lineup and academic seminars with the licensing community soon."

Additional details on each content track include:

  • Basics of Licensing
    Designed for licensing newcomers and those interested in learning more about the industry, Licensing U's "basics" track offers an essential introduction to how the licensing business works; contracts and other legal basics; royalty rates, style guides, retail development and more.

  • Spotlights
    Take a deep dive into key industry segments with Licensing U's Spotlights. The sessions will be built around deep dives into areas such as art and design, corporate brands, celebrities and influencers, sports, entertainment, collaborations and location-based entertainment.

  • Tactics to Strategies
    Intended for more advanced brand licensing professionals keen on honing their expertise, Licensing U’s Tactics to Strategies presents in-depth sessions that will tackle some of the latest topics and trends impacting today’s licensing industry, including eSports, NFTs and more.

After many in-depth conversations with the Licensing community, the Global Licensing Group decided to hold this year's Licensing Expo in a virtual environment and Licensing U will follow the same format.

"It's an exciting opportunity to open Licensing International's expertly curated programming to folks around the world who are unable to travel but are interested in a low-risk approach to getting started in brand licensing," says Knight.

Licensing U's programming will become available to attendees one week before the event starts and will remain available for three months on-demand after Licensing Expo Virtual ends. Participation is simple, select the option to add a Licensing U pass when registering for the event.

"Consumer spending habits have undergone immense disruption as a result of COVID-19, impacting the licensing industry in a variety of ways," says Maura Regan, president, Licensing International. “Our team is committed to bringing the brightest and most creative minds to Licensing U's virtual stage offering exciting and timely seminars; we have a lot in-store and are eager to share our progress.”

Attendees can choose from two options: either one of the event tracks starting at $110 or the All Access Pass to access all content for $195. An early bird 20 percent discount is currently available until July 23.

Licensing International members can enjoy a discount on their rate, and qualified retailers can access the content free of charge.
