ASIA–A select group of licensing executives from the U.S., Europe, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and China kicked off Licensing Expo China, July 18-20, on Monday with an organized tour that highlighted some of Shanghai’s expansive retail landscape.

The Retail Tour, organized by UBM’s Licensing Expo China staff, encompassed in-depth tours of major retailers like Babymax, a 300-store retail chain for children and baby maternity products, and Lotus, a major Chinese hypermarket chain that carries a wide range of products, including full grocery lines and general merchandise.

The Tour also journeyed to downtown Shanghai to visit the Joy City Shopping Mall, where participants were treated to typical Shanghai dishes at Restaurant Miss Mei. While at the Joy City, the Tour also visited licensed retail stores such as Paul Frank, NBA Store, DC Comics Super Heroes Store, Mein Friends and the CAT Store, among others.

Overall, the group was able to experience how strong licensed properties are at retail in China as well as experience how advanced Chinese retail has become in experiential merchandising to drive mall traffic.
