Jackson Confirms Third Hobbit Film

Peter Jackson has confirmed rumors that the upcoming The Hobbit series will be split into three films instead of two, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

New Line, MGM and Warner Bros. have all agreed to make the two-film series into a trilogy.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on Dec. 14, There and Back Again, the second film, is due out Dec. 13, 2013, and the third film is expected to be released in 2014.

The films will be based on J.R.R. Tolkeien’s The Hobbit and an appendix included at the end of The Return of the King.
