The National Retail Federation will honor Costco co-founder and board member Jim Sinegal with the Gold Medal Award at its annual conference and expo, Retail’s Big Show, this week.

“Jim was an obvious choice for the NRF’s Gold Award given his commitment to the industry and Costco and dedication to creating such a well-respected culture throughout the organization he helped build,” says Matthew Shay, president and chief executive officer, NRF. “All of the award winners have successfully been able to cut through the clutter and make an outstanding name for themselves by continuing to innovate and effectively serve their customers in an ever-changing world.”

Other award winners this year include:

  • International Retailer of the Year–South Korea’s Lotte Shopping

  • Retail Innovator of the Year–Nike

  • Silver Plaque–Half Price Books’ executive vice president and chief strategy officer Kathy Doyle Thomas

An award committee comprised of members of the NRF Board selected the award winners. Recipients will accept the awards during the annual luncheon at NRF’s Convention and Expo today.

Retail’s Big Show is taking place through Jan. 15 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.
