Licensing Leadership Summit: MoMA's Modern Approach to Museum Licensing

Robin Sayetta of the MoMA will highlight the uniquely modern approach the museum is taking to licensing its collection.

Art has been a staple of licensing since the industry’s earliest years. Over the years, licensed artwork has been displayed on everything from mugs to t-shirts and everything in-between. Few people understand the immense role art plays in licensing like Robin Sayetta, associate director, licensing and partnerships, business development, retail, Museum of Modern Art. Sayetta’s role at the MoMA sees her bringing a novel approach to art licensing that leverages modern retail channels to deliver the MoMA’s licensing collection to consumers around the world.

To explain the MoMA’s effective modern strategy deployed over the last several years, Sayetta is set to take the stage at this year's Licensing Leadership Summit. Her session will look at MoMA's unique "different by design" approach to licensing, including how close collaboration with the museum's curatorial team and retail channels support the growth of global product and retail store licensing initiatives. The discussion will also highlight the challenges inherent in building a commercial enterprise within a non-profit environment and uncover how MoMA manages complexities related to branding and intellectual property in the art world.

Sayetta joins the Licensing Leadership Summit agenda, having spent more than four years working at MoMA, where she has worked with the museum to develop partnerships with top brands such as Uniqlo and Vans. Before working at the MoMA, Sayetta held posts at companies including Conde Nast, Scholastic and Discovery Channel.

Join Sayetta's session, "Different by Design: MoMA's Modern Approach to Museum Licensing," at this year's Licensing Leadership Summittaking place March 16–17 at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York, NY. During the session, Sayetta will share insight into her work with the MoMA and how global licensing growth is possible in the non-profit space.
