The program’s newest category for Best Inclusivity in kids programming, which was launched last year to celebrate the balanced representation of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color), LGTBQ+ and disabled characters in a positive and non-stereotypical way, will now also recognize efforts made behind the scenes to ensure that the diverse voices and communities portrayed on-screen are involved in the production as well.
And a brand-new category for Best Holiday or Special Episode will recognize series segments that celebrate a holiday, seasonal or cultural theme.
Programming entries are being accepted for Preschool (0 to 5), Kids (6 to 10) and Tweens/Teens (11 to 15) in the following categories:
• Best New Series;
• Best Animated Series;
• Best Live-Action Series;
• Best Mixed-Media Series;
• Best Holiday or Special Episode;
• Best One-Off,
• Best Short Film;
• Best Inclusivity; and
• Best in Class.
Then there are the Broadcasting categories:
• Channel of the Year;
• Best On-Air Host or Hosting Team;
• Best Programming Block; and
• Best Kids-Only Streaming Service.
And finally, the Digital categories for Preschool (0 to 5) and Kids (6 and up):
• Best Game App—Original;
• Best Game App—Branded;
• Best Learning App—Original;
• Best Learning App—Branded;
• Best Alternative Game;
• Best YouTube Channel;
• Best Web/App Series—Original;
• Best Web/App Series—Branded; and
• Best Website.
Early-Bird entry fees are in effect, offering savings to companies that complete their entries well before deadline. For all categories, the entry fee is U.S. $300 until August 13, and U.S. $400 after that date. Additional entry into the “Best in Class” field requires an extra fee of U.S. $100.
Winners will be announced at an evening presentation event as part of next year’s Kidscreen Summit, which will take place live in Miami from February 14 to 17.
