New unit will oversee all international licensing for IDW catalog, Archie Comics.

IDW Publishing is bringing the management of its foreign rights catalog for global publishing in-house with the opening of an internal licensing division.

The new unit will oversee all international licensing of the IDW catalog.

IDW is best known for its slate of licensed material including comic series for Back to the Future, "Orphan Black," "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "Star Trek," Ghostbusters and "The X-Files."

Additionally, the new division will also handle non-English language rights for fellow comics publisher Archie Comics.

“Controling our own global publishing was a natural step for IDW as we continue our growth as a fully integrated media company,” says Ted Adams, chief executive officer, IDW. “We're very pleased to also provide global publishing services for Archie, and we'll be adding other creators and publishers as the new year progresses.”

“It’s been a longtime goal of mine to expand the Archie brand internationally in terms of translations," says Jon Goldwater, publisher and chief executive officer, Archie Comics. “Expanding our existing partnership with IDW will help make this a reality. We are all immensely excited to help IDW launch their new international division with some of the most beloved properties in pop culture: Archie and the gang.”

Leading the new division will be Jeff Webber, formerly vice president of digital publishing and business development, who will now take on the role of vice president of licensing, digital and subsidiary rights.
