Simon & Schuster is seeking a Manager in the Brand Management department of its Children’s Division in New York City. The individual will manage licensed businesses through disseminating brand information and assessing brand performance in the marketplace. The position involves licensor relations and brand management.

Major Responsibilities/Tasks
Brand Management on portfolio of licensed properties:

  • Monitors Nickelodeon’s business by tracking sales and POS data.

    • Prepares and distributes Monthly Activity Reports by property & license including sales, marketing and publishing updates for internal distribution and to key Nickelodeon personnel.

    • Develops, executes, and assists in preparing bi-yearly Business Review by working with the business office, marketing, sales, and publishing.

  • Analyzes marketplace trends and S&S sales on all licensed businesses.

    • Researches and communicates all relevant sales and marketing opportunities. 

  • Ensure all brand attributes are properly communicated in marketing and sales materials.

    • Work with marketing department for cross-promotional opportunities.

  • Aligns all marketing efforts/messages with Licensors to maximize all retail opportunities.

  • Works with Associate Publisher, Editorial and Licensors to evaluate title counts, formats, themes and price points as well as timing of releases.

  • Runs weekly licensing meetings to evaluate portfolio of current brand and new opportunities:

  • Attends and participates in internal meetings such as editorial positioning, pub grid reviews and licensing.

Primarily manages the S&S relationship with key Licensors:

  • Assist Associate Publisher and Publisher by scouting for new license acquisitions.

    • Researches and evaluates new opportunities, strategically and financially.

    • Prepares pitch decks.

  • Primary contact to communicate upcoming S&S initiatives to Nickelodeon and other key licensors.

  • Works closely with Licensors to obtain current brand information and communicates internally to Sales, Editorial and Marketing.

    • Assesses relevant brand information and prepares documentation for S&S intranet and various departments.

  • Evaluate premium and proprietary opportunities and manage approval process by working with Licensors.

  • Manage Licensor payment schedules by working with Business Office.

  • Work with Legal department to execute contracts.

Minimum Required Experience
College Degree Required: Business concentration preferred

  • 5-10 years experience in Licensing, Marketing or Brand Management, focus on children’s market a plus

  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written; comfortable with presentations

  • Leadership skills: experience collaborating internally with cross-functional teams and negotiating externally.

  • Must be analytical, adept at multi-tasking, a “people-person”, and organized.

  • Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
