The History of Advertising Trust (HAT) was founded in 1976 as an archive of the advertising industry and has since grown to embrace all forms of brand communication. The archive holds a range of material – from industry collections such as Ogilvy & Mather, JWT, The Advertising Association and the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising, through to British brand archives such as Butlin’s, Dunlop, Humber, Nestlé and Premier Foods.
HAT preserves and celebrates the heritage of British brand communication by maintaining an extensive archive and using its collections in social and educational projects. The Trust has grown since its early days at temporary premises in London and now encompasses over 8,000 square feet of dedicated space where original artworks have been rescued, donated and cared for by volunteers.
HAT and Iris have been collaborating for two years, collating collections and securing the support of the brand owners so this unique collection can be licensed to partners across categories. Iris has secured a number of high-profile retail deals with the first apparel range in production.
This very important archive is key to a number of university curriculums today as well as being a valuable source for designers with the first works archived dating back to 1800.
