Sandow has also announced a new long-term partnership with Mark Styler to bring Fred Segal to Japan next year. The deal marks the first time in more than 50 years that the Fred Segal name has been used outside of its original Los Angeles locations. The first standalone Fred Segal flagship is slated to open in Tokyo in September and will feature a salon and spa, much like the original emporiums in Los Angeles.
Additional retail locations in other key Japanese cities will follow after the Tokyo debut including both flagship stores and branded boutiques within department stores.
“Part of our strategy was to expand the Fred Segal brand internationally. The Japanese level of sophistication when it comes to fashion/lifestyle brands, coupled with their understanding and appreciation for the authenticity and appeal of Fred Segal, made us focus on this market first," says Sandow. “Mark Styler is a well-established player in the retail industry that intends to preserve the integrity of Fred Segal, making it the perfect steward for our brand in Japan. With our partner’s expertise, Fred Segal’s aesthetic and fashion-forward philosophy will undoubtedly appeal to Japan’s style-conscious trendsetters.”
Sandow’s recent acquisition of the Fred Segal brand at the beginning of this year included rights to all IP, covering the development of a new e-commerce platform, new retail stores worldwide and the development of Fred Segal-branded apparel and products.
