American sneaker designer Sean Wotherspoon has developed new vegan footwear with Adidas. The footwear, made from plant-based materials and upcycled fabric, was created with sustainability and eco-consciousness in mind.
“For me, it’s hard to have this platform and not proactively do something,” says Wotherspoon in an interview with Footwear News. “We researched plant-based, recyclable, alternative and vegan materials that we could incorporate into the shoe so it can have multiple lives.”
The collaboration, called SuperEarth, is a reimagination of the Adidas Superstar. Rather than the cowhide upper of the original, the shoe is entirely vegan. The construction consists of reused Ortholite sockliners, vegan glues, natural rubber composed outsoles, paper-made laces and 100 percent recycled polyester lining.
The shoe is set to launch on Aug. 29 through select retailers.
