U.K. grocery chain Waitrose is planning its first push into the U.S. market with its re-launched Duchy Originals premium food range, founded by Prince Charles.

The Duchy Originals debut in the U.S. will act as catalyst to accelerate Waitrose's expansion in international markets, Mark Price, managing director of Waitrose, said at the Reuters Consumer and Retail Summit. Waitrose is currently considering its distribution strategy. The re-launched line of organic foods will be available September in the U.K.

Waitrose, owned by British retailer John Lewis, acquired the Duchy Originals license in September 2009. Besides launching it in the U.S., the grocer is eyeing India and Asia.
