Gucci is set to open a restaurant on Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, Calif. in spring of 2020.
The new restaurant will be the second restaurant opened by the brand and the first outside of Italy. The first restaurant, known as an Osteria, opened in January of 2018 in Florence, Italy. The experience, called Gucci Garden, featured a boutique, exhibition space and restaurant, which was headed by three-Michelin-star chef Massimo Bottura.
“Gucci has a rooftop on Rodeo Drive in the store, with a private entrance,” explains Bottura to Eater. “It’s an amazing building. The way we are playing in Florence is the same way Gucci is playing with fashion. Taking details from the past 70 years and matching them with new ideas to create a new aesthetic. A new fashion. A new word. Pushing boundaries. We are playing in the same way at Osteria Gucci.”
From June 28 to Nov. 10 of this year, Rodeo Drive hosted the 22,000 square foot Louis Vuitton X pop-up and Instagram hot spot, which showcased the luxury house’s 160-year history of collaborations with notable artists.
Gucci also joins other fashion brands have made their way into the experiential retail space in recent years. Brands, including Ralph Lauren (The Polo Bar), Prada (Pasticceria Marchesi), Tiffany & Co. (The Blue Box Cafe), Burberry (Thomas’s) have begun to leverage experiential retail to lure new customers in with bars, pastry shops, restaurants and more.
