Hearst has tapped C.J. Kettler to bring Popeye, Betty Boop and other iconic characters into the digital age.

GLOBAL–Hearst Entertainment & Syndication has named C.J. Kettler to serve as president of King Features Syndicate.

In her new role, Kettler will bring King Features’ roster of iconic characters–including Popeye, Betty Boop, Prince Valiant, Flash Gordon and Cuphead–into the digital age across multiple new platforms.

Before King Features, Kettler spent time Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, where she developed a media literacy curriculum for Channel One News and launched a preschool subscription app. She was also the chief executive officer of Sunbow Entertainment and served as a founding member of the Oxygen Media management team.

“With her wealth of digital media and production experience, C.J. will further develop King Features’ iconic characters for the next generation of viewers on multiple media platforms,” says Neeraj Khemlani, president, Hearst Entertainment. “As premium kids’ programming continues to expand onto Netflix, Hulu, Apple and Amazon and short form video continues to move onto platforms like YouTube, Snapchat and Facebook, so will our characters. C.J. is joining the King Features team at a unique time, building on the rich foundation of the company’s past and spearheading new initiatives for the future.”
