BBC
The BBC and Disney Branded Television jointly announced their first "Doctor Who" spin-off titled "The War Between The Land And The Sea" during San Diego Comic-Con.
The series is created by "Doctor Who" Showrunner and executive producer Russell T Davies, who has written the series with Pete McTighe. Leading the five-part series is Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw . The series will also see the return of alumni Jemma Redgrave, who will reprise her role as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Alexander Devrient as Colonel Ibrahim.
“The War Between The Land and The Sea is another utterly unique and gripping drama from Russell T Davies and we’re delighted to welcome the show to The Whoniverse," says Lindsay Salt, director, drama, BBC. "Featuring a stellar cast, with Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw taking on leading roles, this brand new epic mini series will leave audiences on the edge of their seats as they watch UNIT take on one of their biggest battles to save humanity."
Filming begins next month and will be directed by Dylan Holmes-Williams, director of two "Doctor Who" season one episodes – "73 Yards" and "Dot and Bubble".
Marvel
Marvel fans at Comic Con were delighted to learn that Robert Downey Jr. is coming back to the MCU. However, he's not coming back as Iron Man. He's coming back as Dr. Doom.
After (spoiler) Tony Stark's death in the MCU, RDJ's return as an entirely new character comes as a surprise, but not considering how Chris Evans has played both Captain America and The Human Torch, or that (spoiler) both Andrew Garfield and Tobey McGuire returned as Spider-Man in "No Way Home" with Tom Holland (who was also Spider-Man in the film. Marvel is really leaning into the multiverse thing).
With this news came the new Marvel slate: two new "Avengers" films, "Captain America: Brave New World", "Thunderbolts" and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps", to name a few.
