Warner Bros. Consumer Products has opened the first Central Perk coffee shops in the U.K., inspired by the classic hangout spot from the sitcom “Friends.”

Created in partnership with KAR Liverpool and KAR Chester and a range of licensees, the coffee shops are located in Liverpool and Chester.

“The cameras may have stopped rolling a decade ago but ‘Friends’ continues to attract legions of new fans through consistent television broadcast and original fans are as loyal to the brand as they ever were,” says Paul Bufton, general manager, WBCP U.K. “As we approach the 20th anniversary of the show, Friends will be back in the spotlight and the popularity of the Central Perk coffee shops will accelerate further as the destination social hub for Friends fans who want to literally consume the Friends brand.”??

Take-away coffee is served in Friends-branded paper cups, and just as on the series, the cafes host live performances, open mic nights and book clubs. A range of Friends merchandise is also available including DVDs, mugs and t-shirts.

“In Central Perk we have been offered a unique opportunity to create not just a café, but a warm, social environment where visitors want to spend time rather than simply grabbing a coffee and going,” says Kane Russell, managing director, KAR. “The appeal of Central Perk stretches beyond the local communities in Liverpool and Chester and the cafes are becoming a destination for Friends fans right across the U.K.”
