Toei Deals for ‘Dragon Ball,’ ‘Sailor Moon’

Classic anime series continue to grow in Europe with new apparel, video games and live events.

Toei Animation has signed a raft of European partners for new merchandise, exhibitions and more based on “Dragon Ball Super,” “Dragon Ball Z,” “Sailor Moon” and “Digimon.”

First, for “Dragon Ball Super,” the company has partnered with Madness and Comic Studio in Spain and Portugal to develop collections of underwear, nightwear, t-shirts and sweatshirts. Furthermore, Blade Representations has also signed on to create a line of video game accessories for PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch.

El Ocho Licencias y Promociones, the brand’s Spanish agent, brokered the deals.

Meanwhile, Luxembourg-based statue manufacturer Tsume has unveiled its latest “Dragon Ball Z” statue, which depicts a scene where Goku fights Nappa, a Saiyan warrior.

“Dragon Ball” will also be featured at the Barbican Art Gallery in London as part of The Japanese House Architecture and Life after 1945 exhibition. The exhibit, co-organized by the Japan Foundation and the Barbican, will highlight the world of the series as well as the Capsule houses created by Akira Toriyama, the creator of “Dragon Ball.”

In addition to “Dragon Ball,” Toei has also partnered with La Fée Sauvage for a “Sailor Moon” symphonic concert in the U.K., France, Germany, Italy and Spain. The concert will feature live music from the series with synchronized video from the anime series. The premiere show will take place in Paris, Nov. 25.

Finally, Toei Animation and Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe have joined forces for a new “Digimon” video game, titled “Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth–Hacker’s Memory.” The new RPG will be available in early 2018 for PlayStation 4 and PSVita.
