Tencent to Bring DHX Shows to China

DHX expands its reach in China in an expansive new deal with the Internet provider’s streaming content platform.

EUROPE–DHX Media has teamed up with Tencent in a multi-series deal to bring shows such as “Teletubbies,” “Strawberry Shortcake,” “Inspector Gadget” and “Super Why” to audiences in China via its streaming platform.

The multi-year deal will also include “Twirlywoos” and “Animal Mechanicals,” and Tencent will be the exclusive home of “Strawberry Shortcake” in the region.

The partnership is a natural next step for DHX, which already licenses more than 11,000 half-hours of content across linear services in China, as they continue to expand their presence in the territory.

“As we continue to build on the tremendous opportunity for children’s content and brands in China, leading streaming companies like Tencent are looking to DHX Media as a key supplier of quality shows that children love,” says Josh Scherba, executive vice president, distribution and content, DHX Media. “We are thrilled to launch into this new relationship with Tencent, who have an incredibly robust and growing presence across the

internet in China, making their highly popular streaming platforms perfect for delivering top DHX Media series like ‘Teletubbies,’ ‘Inspector Gadget,’ ‘Strawberry Shortcake’ and others to millions of viewers.”
