Following his feature film debut this year, the TV character will arrive on Broadway in 2016.
Nickelodeon has announced plans for "The SpongeBob Musical," which will feature a tidal wave of original songs from musical greats including Steven Tyler, John Legend and Cyndi Lauper.
The show will debut at Chicago's Oriental Theatre from June 7-July 3, 2016, before heading to Broadway for the 2016/2017 season.
Among the talent slated to create original songs for the musical are Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Jonathan Coulton, Dirty Projectors, The Flaming Lips, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., with an additional song by David Bowie and additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton.
Tickets for the show's Chicago premiere will go on sale in October.
