Nickelodeon, in partnership with The Araca Group, Sony Music Masterworks and Kelp on the Road, will open “SpongeBob SquarePants” on Broadway at The Palace Theater this fall.

The musical first debuted last June at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre.

The “SpongeBob SquarePants” musical will see SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. As chaos erupts and when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero will rise up and take center stage to save the day.

The musical will feature original songs by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, and T.I., among many others. It will also feature a song by David Bowie.

“We could not be more thrilled to bring Nickelodeon’s iconic ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ to the theater in an original musical conceived specifically for Broadway,” says Cyma Zarghami, president, Nickelodeon Group. “We are also incredibly honored to be in such a gorgeous house as The Palace, where audiences will be immsered in the fun and surprising world of Bikini Bottom.”

Preview performances for “SpongeBob SquarePants” will begin on Nov. 6, with an official opening on Dec. 4.
