Sharknado Devours Global Retail

Syfy, The Asylum and Earthbound have signed more than 20 partners for the global pop culture sensation, TV movie Sharknado, with more than 1,000 retail outlets offering products in 45-plus categories.

A sequel, Sharknado 2: The Second One, will premiere on Syfy in the U.S. July 30 and internationally to Syfy viewers in 86 countries within 24 hours of its U.S. debut.

“Whether it’s crazy hats, jewelry or boxer shorts, Syfy fans simply can’t get enough of Sharknado,” says Jeff Li, vice president, Syfy Ventures. "As Sharknado consumed social media last year, now it is swallowing up the world of merchandising. This wide range of products underscores the insatiable public appetite for Sharknado."

Sharknado products include posters, jewelry, Halloween costumes, sleepwear, t-shirts, boxer shorts, socks, swim trunks, car decals, towels, holiday stockings, shot glasses, tumblers, drinkware, backpacks, collectibles and mobile accessories in retail outlets from Walmart and Hot Topic to Spencer’s.

Top selling Sharknado items include Funko’s Pop! vinyl figure, Sharknado beach towels and Sharknado boys’ pajamas.
