The 45th anniversary season of “Sesame Street” will premiere September 15 on PBS Kids.

This September will also bring a bonus half-hour program airing on weekday afternoons and weekend mornings to compliment the regular weekday one-hour series.

All half-hour episodes is a shortened version of the one-hour program and will include new “Street Story,” and “Word on the Street” segments, plus a celebrity vocabulary segment featuring boy band One Direction, actor Ian McKellen and First Lady Michelle Obama, plus more in the upcoming season.

New installments of “Cookie’s Crumbly Pictures,” brand-new segments for “Elmo the Musical” and “Super Grover 2.0.” and new animation are also a part of the anniversary season.

Sesame Street will continue to showcase with its infamous pop-culture spoofs that both children and parents have enjoyed throughout the years. This season’s spoofs include “House of Bricks,” a spoof of the Netflix television series “House of Cards” where the Big Bad Wolf blows down and subtracts the Three Little Pigs’ houses until there’s only one left… the White Brick House. In “Game of Chairs,” a spoof of the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” Grover competes to be king or queen by playing a suspenseful game of musical chairs.

There will also be new ‘Sesame Street’ games on sesamestreet.org and pbskids.org/sesame this fall. On Sesame Street’s site, Grover is your train conductor in “Grover’s Rhyme Time Express!”, and is looking for a rhyming expert to help as the engineer. Children will use an array of skills to control the train’s speed, choose correct freight cars, and collect lots of rhyming cargo en route to Sesame Station.  “Abby’s Sandbox Search,” on PBS Kids’ site, will focus on letters, letter sounds and alliteration. When Abby is searching for objects in her favorite sandbox, players can help her dig in the sand and uncover objects that start with a specific letter.

“PBS Kids is thrilled to celebrate ‘Sesame Street’ 45-year legacy by offering new half-hour programs,” says Lesli Rotenberg, general manager, children’s media, PBS. “The bonus half-hour program will enable PBS Kids to offer ‘Sesame Street’ to even more families on air and on digital platforms, making it easy for them to engage with their favorite characers and helping kids build key skills”
