Rovio Entertainment has tapped Evolution to serve as its licensing agent in the U.S. The company has also appointed Simo Hämäläinen to the position of senior vice president of brand licensing.

First, Evolution will now represent Rovio’s current Angry Birds initiatives for merchandising, promotions and retail opportunities, as well as look ahead to 2018 to focus on company’s breakout characters from The Angry Birds Movie, the Hatchlings.

“These are exciting times for Angry Birds in the U.S. We have new animation content in production, several big game launches coming in 2017 and 2018 and the sequel to The Angry Birds Movie in development,” says Hämäläinen. “Partnering with Evolution greatly strengthens not only our licensing program in the U.S., but will significantly increase our retail penetration across all channels."

Meanwhile, Hämäläinen has been with Rovio for more than four years and was the vice president of marketing and promotions before taking over as head of licensing operations.

Prior to joining the company, he held several sales and marking roles at Heineken and worked across brands such as Heinekin, Sol, Fosters and Pepsi.
