Rebel Girls is introducing a new franchise, and its first fiction series, “The Secret Society of Rebel Girls.” Set in the world of the Ada Lovelace School, “The Secret Society of Rebel Girls” navigates friendship, laughter, adversity, mystery and adventure as classmates Nina, Maya, Kai and Zoe find themselves through advice from the past. The original story and characters were conceived by Anna McCleery for Rebel Girls, who has publishing and television plans for the franchise.

Rebel Girls will release “Secret Society of Rebel Girls: Nina and the Mysterious Mailbox” on Aug. 13. Written by New York Times bestselling author Marti Dumas, “Nina and the Mysterious Mailbox” is the first of the six middle grade books in the series and will be published by DK.

Dumas has written “Wildseed Witch and Jaden Toussaint” and contributed to “It’s Not Bragging If It’s True: How to Be Awesome at Life, from a Winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.”

“The Secret Society of Rebel Girls” is also being developed for television by Lion Forge Entertainment (Academy Award-winning HAIR LOVE).

Lion Forge Entertainment president and chief commercial officer, Stephanie Sperber, is spearheading development for the studio, and Anna McCleery, who is represented by The Agency, is writing the pilot and serving as creator and executive producer. McCleery’s credits include “A Kind of Spark” and “Free Rein”. Lion Forge and Rebel Girls will executive produce the live-action television series.

“Creating our first fiction property with ‘Secret Society of Rebel Girls’ has been an incredible road, and I know girls will discover friendship, adventure and confidence in the stories of Nina, Maya, Kai and Zoe. As a girl-first brand, we are proud to produce storytelling that reflects girlhood today and showcase characters readers can identify with and embrace for the triumphs, adversity and weirdness in everyday life. We are proud to be working with Lion Forge, DK, Anna and Marti to bring Secret Society of Rebel Girls to life,” says Jes Wolfe, chief executive officer, Rebel Girls.

Stephanie Sperber, president and chief commercial officer, Lion Forge Entertainment says, “Rebel Girls is one of the most impactful brands in the world, reaching girls, boys and their parents in publishing, podcasts and more. We’re honored and excited to take Rebel Girls to television for the first time and expand and grow with the global audience who is already passionate about the IP.  There are so few big IPs available, and when driving discoverability is critical in a world full of content choices, brands like Rebel Girls can really break through.”
