Endemol Shine North America and MTV have joined forces to reboot the television series “Fear Factor.”

The refreshed series will be hosted by recording artist Ludacris and will see contestants pair up into four teams to battle it out in a number of new stunts inspired by urban legends, scary movies and viral videos from today’s cultural zeitgeist.

“MTV is about celebrating youth culture, and with the reinvented ‘Fear Factor,’ we are putting the power in our audience’s hands to face and overcome their biggest fears,” says Chris McCarthy, president, MTV, VH1 and Logo. “We are thrilled to partner with Ludacris, one of the biggest global stars who has a rich history with MTV, to energize this franchise for a whole new generation.”

The 12-episode series will be produced by Endemol Shine North America and is slated to premiere on May 30 on MTV. Endemol Shine will also handle the licensing and merchandising rights for the series.
