Universal's Minions has become the top-selling license in the British toy market, unseating Disney’s Frozen, which had occupied the top position since July 2014, according to The NPD Group

Minions landed on British screens on June 26, and became the biggest seller in the week prior to that, a trend that's expected across other countries as the film continues to release in additional markets this month.

Additionally, Minions is currently the third best-selling license in the French toy market and No. 6 in the United States.

“Expectations are high at retail after the general public allegedly demanded more merchandise following the first two movies," says Frédérique Tutt, global industry analyst, The NPD Group. "By being so different from the usual Hollywood blockbusters which feature superheroes, apocalyptic threats and good versus evil, the Minions movie with its anti-heroes has a fresh appeal and a feel-good factor that could well make yellow the color of summer 2015.”
