DreamWorks Studios has appointed Striker Entertainment and Entertainment One Licensing to represent the upcoming film The BFG, adapted from the classic Roald Dahl children’s book.

Striker will handle licensing for the brand worldwide (including North America), except in Pan-Europe where eOne will represent the property.

The film, which will be directed by Steven Spielberg, is set for release July 1, 2016. Published in 1982, The BFG is the tale of a young London girl and the mysterious giant who introduces her to the beauty and peril of Giant Country.

eOne will also handle distribution of the movie to all media in the U.K., allowing the company to develop a fully integrated campaign to support the film. Distribution will by handled by The Walt Disney Company in the U.S. and select international territories, Mister Smith Entertainment in EMEA and Reliance in India.

The BFG marks DreamWorks’ fifth collaboration with Striker Entertainment,” says Jeff Small, president and chief executive officer, DreamWorks Studios. “Russell Binder and Marc Mostman have been outstanding partners to us over the years, and we look forward to working with them and their team on this exciting project.”

“We are absolutely delighted to be working on The BFG, which is one of the best-loved children’s tales conjured up by Roald Dahl’s wild and wonderful imagination," says Hannah Mungo, head of U.K. licensing, eOne. "The BFG movie promises to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2016, and we look forward speaking to potential licensees who have giant ideas.”
