Following its acquisition of the majority stake in Wombles Copyright Holdings, Dramatico Entertainment is planning a multi-platform re-launch for the classic British brand.

Re-launch plans include an online Wombles World interactive experience that will be created in collaboration with Dubit, a live-action/CGI feature film, merchandise, a TV series and a The Wombles pop group tour.

Dramatico Animation is already working on the new CGI series (52 x11), which will debut on Channel 5’s Milkshake programming block in 2015. The animation test will be available for viewing at MIPJunior in Cannes, France, this October.

“Many people have attempted to bring back classic properties, and failed. What sets The Wombles apart is that they were ahead of their time, as the first recycling enthusiasts and with the extra dimension of the band that brought them to a family arena,” says Genevieve Dexter of Serious Lunch, whom Dramatico has appointed as co-executive producer for the project. “The rights have now been regrouped and adapted for 21st century tastes and media consumption, although the relevance of the original themes holds strong and the messages therein are perhaps even more widely accepted today.”
