Disney's Frozen Continues to Reign

Enthusiasm for Disney's Frozen shows no sign of waning with more than 3 million Elsa and Anna role-play dresses sold and licensees continuing to add new products.

Enthusiasm for Disney's Frozen shows no sign of waning with Disney Consumer Products reporting that more than 3 million Elsa and Anna role-play dresses have been sold in North America alone and licensees continuing to add new products.

Elsa and Anna are leading costume sales at all Disney Store locations in North America by double digits, and according to the National Retail Federation, the film was the top Halloween brand this year with an estimated 2.6 million children dressing up as one of Frozen's characters.

The brand is resonating in other categories as well. Since Frozen’s release in 2013, Disney Publishing Worldwide and its licensees have published more than 800 print titles globally and more than 35 e-books in the U.S; “Disney Frozen: Free Fall” is Disney Interactive’s top-grossing, most-downloaded app of the year; The "Disney On Ice Frozen" show continues to tour; a new Frozen-themed attraction is coming to Epcot; and a Frozen Broadway show is in development.

“The powerful connection families around the world have with Frozen and its characters is truly a phenomenon that has only continued to grow over the last 12 months,” says Paul Gainer, executive vice president, Disney retail, Disney Consumer Products. “This holiday season Disney Consumer Products has expanded product categories and doubled our presence at retail to meet the strong demand for everything Frozen. The big freeze looks set to continue.”

Recent additions to the Frozen lineup include:

  • Disney Consumer Products will launch 16 new Frozen-themed food and health product lines beginning this fall through spring 2015 including fresh apples and grapes, juice, yogurt, bandages and a complete oral care line.
  • New products are also being developed to celebrate the Frozen Fever short from Walt Disney Animation Studios, which will debut in spring 2015.
  • Build-A-Bear Workshop has added a Disney Frozen collection to its holiday lineup featuring plush versions three of the film's leading characters: Olaf, Elsa and Anna. In addition to themed accessories, guests can customize their plush with a pre-recorded sound chip featuring one of three songs from the film or a personal message. 
  • Spanish company Ingo Devices has released a line of electronic products featuring the animated film including the Ingo tablet with a branded microphone for the "Disney’s Frozen Karaoke" app.
