Dentsu Entertainment will represent the Japanese comedy-adventure TV show “YO-Kai Watch” for broadcasting and merchandising in the Americas, announced the company yesterday.

Dentsu is currently seeking partners for both broadcasting and consumer products.

“YO-Kai Watch” debuted in January on TV Tokyo and appeals to both boys and girls. The show tells the story of a category of spirit entities from Japanese folklore (the yo-kai) that range from friendly to dangerous. The yo-kai tale begins as a curious 10-year-old boy frees Whisper, a ghost-butler yo-kai, from 190 years of imprisonment. Whisper then vows to protect the boy from the supernatural and gifts him with a magical tool that allows him to see other yo-kai.

“‘YO-Kai Watch’ is high quality storytelling and animation at its very best," says Yuma Sakata, president and chief executive officer, Dentsu Entertainment. "‘YO-Kai Watch’ is truly kid-focused entertainment at its best. We are excited to bring this universally-themed comedic tale to North, Central and South American broadcasters."
