Contender Entertainment Group has rebranded to become E1 Entertainment. The rebadging follows the acquisition of Contender by the entertainment content owner and distributor Entertainment One—itself now operating under the E1 Entertainment banner. E1 has a significant presence in North America and Europe.

All three Contender divisions—theatrical and home video distribution, TV production and distribution, and licensing and merchandising—come together under the E1 Entertainment heading.

The licensing division's properties include Tractor Tom, Peppa Pig, Humf and Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom.

As E1 Entertainment the licensing business will enjoy opportunities to integrate more closely with other parts of the U.K. group and exploit the synergies not only of the former Contender operation, but also of the international E1 Entertainment group as a whole.

"The rebranding of Contender is perfectly timed," says Andrew Carley, head of licensing at E1 Entertainment. "At E1 Entertainment we will continue to develop our successful licensing program and build properties for the future. However, the rebranding will reinforce our identity as part of the international E1 Entertainment family and the breadth and reach of our business will grow as a consequence. These are very exciting times for us—and particularly for our licensing business."
