BBC is bringing back the classic animated preschool show “Clangers” after 45 years. The series is being co-produced by CBeebies, Coolabi, Smallfilms and U.S. 24-hour preschool network, Sprout, while BBC Worldwide will serve as the international distributor for the show.

Production on the stop-motion animation series is already underway with the premiere set for 2015.

The Clangers, which previously aired on the BBC in 1969, are pink, long-nosed, mouse-shaped creatures who live on a small blue planet that is peppered with holes that lead to a series of interconnecting tunnels and caves.

“Nostalgia is a funny thing, and we always think very carefully about remakes or re-imaginings of classic children’s programs,” says Kay Benbow, controller, CBeebies. “‘Clangers’ is a program that has an enduring magic. The new proposition has been built firmly upon the joyful foundations of the original, and will be produced by a team of exceptional talent that includes the extraordinary Peter Firmin. We are terrifically excited to bring this out-of-this-world series to our CBeebies audience.”

The classic U.K. series will makes its U.S. debut on Sprout.

“Sprout is passionate about bringing the finest children’s programs to our audience and ‘Clangers’ aligns with this vision,” says Andrew Beecham, senior vice president of programming, Sprout. “‘Clangers’ has a remarkable animation heritage, which had a big impact on my childhood in the U.K., so I look forward to its reinvention for a brand new audience on Sprout in the U.S.”
