AMC has put in a two-season order for a companion series to its hit zombie drama “The Walking Dead.”

The new, as-yet unnamed series will be set in Los Angeles and will feature new characters and storylines as it explores the events leading up to the zombie apocalypse in "The Walking Dead."

The first six-episode season of the prequel series will debut on AMC late this summer with a second season slated for 2026.

“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the No. 1 show on television," says Charlie Collier, president, AMC. "From the beginning of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out.”
