‘Garfield: The Musical with Cattitude’ will join Rodgers and Hammerstein’s collection of kid’s musical titles.

R&H Theatricals, a division of Rodgers and Hammerstein, an Imagem Company, has secured the rights to perform “Garfield: The Musical with Cattitude” from Paws, Inc.

“We are delighted to add this popular brand to our collection of Theater for Young Audiences titles,” says Bill Gaden, chief executive officer, Imagem. “Garfield has connected with kids of all ages for decades and has had lasting impacts on all of our lives. We are proud to bring this show to theaters all over the world.”

“Garfield: The Musical with Cattitude” is based on the “Garfield” comic strip by Jim Davis. The musical follows Garfield as he fantasizes about having the best birthday ever, but all of his friends seem to have forgotten. Feeling rejected, Garfield ventures out to find adventure, but learns that “home is where the heart… and the food is.”

The musical was premiered by the Adventure Theater Company in Washington D.C. last year.

“I’ve wanted to do a musical for years,” says Jim Davis. “I’d been waiting for the perfect opportunity and it came the day co-writer Michael Bobbitt knocked on the door. Our collaboration was seamless, and adding John Cornelius, II to do the music was the icing on the cake. ‘Garfield: A Musical with Cattitude’ has a ton of warmth, humor and charm. I couldn’t be happier than to share it with the world.”
